

PROF. CLEOPATRA CHARLES
Cleopatra Charles, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the School of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University, where she has taught and conducted research since 2010. A Fulbright Scholar twice over — first at Charles University in the Czech Republic (2019–2020) and then at the National University for Public Service in Hungary (2021–2022) — she brings an international perspective to the study of nonprofit management and public administration.
Her research focuses on nonprofit financial sustainability, with particular expertise in fundraising strategy, budgeting, risk management, and debt financing within arts and cultural organizations. She is the co-author of *Financial Leadership for the Arts: Sustainable Strategies for Creative Organizations* (UNC Press, 2024), a landmark resource for practitioners and scholars in the field.
Dr. Charles holds a B.A. and MPA from Baruch College, City University of New York, and a Ph.D. in Public Administration from the University of Kentucky (2008). She is a founder of a nonprofit organization and serves as a consultant to national and international nonprofit organizations.
